A new bill called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) which has been put before the US House of Representatives, has sparked a fierce battle between the creative industries and the free speech lobbyists.

The team at Umbraco HQ have been working flatout to bring us a version of Umbraco 5 (Beta) to download and play with just before the festive break! So far it looks exactly the same to us from the admin users point of view. The majority of the changes are behind the scenes, where it is now using technologies like MVC, LINQ, RAZOR to make the magic happen.

Umbraco 5 has entered BETA phase on 11 November 2011! This means it's 85% completed and that the Umbraco Team is getting closer to a feature complete V5. The Beta tag means that many of the exisiting features from Umbraco 4 are now available in Umbraco 5 Beta, but there still may be some V4 features missing - but don't worry as these will appear as the Beta phase moves closer to launch day!
