The clever chaps over at Nmap.org have
found a way to use their own bespoke Nmap
Security Scanner and its scripting engine, along
with freely available Alexa Traffic data to scan the Top Million
ranking websites in the world, fetch the favicons from each of
them and then try to display them in a cloud map type view....
oh so clever!
What ended up happening was... 328,427 unique icons were
collected, of which 288,945 were proper images. The remaining
39,482 were error strings and other non-image files. They then took
all those icons and produced this interactive map visualization
below, allowing users to search for a website and drag, pan and
zoom to view those smaller brands with less traffic.
I wonder if Bluegrass is hidden in there... HOORAY we are - click
here! Can you see us??
